Garage preparations

I’m fortunate to have a double width garage and a lot of tools left over from the GD427 build (axle stands, trolley jacks, engine crane, compressor, air tools etc.) but I still needed to clear out and reorganise to create enough space to work in comfort.

We extended our home about 10years ago created a new garage as part of the remodelling. For some reason I never go round to doing anything with the garage floor which was left as bare concrete. I looked into various options including tiles and epoxy flooring but settled on heavy duty polyurethane floor paint as this was relatively inexpensive, simple to apply and could be overpainted if necessary. I used red floor paint in the original garage and whilst this hid the dust nicely it also acted like an invisibility cloak for any nut / bolt or other critically important small part I dropped during the GD427 build.

It took a few weekends to clear out the garage and re-organise things for the build but I’ve got a sensibly sized space to work with. The nosecone, bonnet and a few boxes of bits will be stored in the house to make more room in the garage.

I chose light grey and painted the floor in sections over several weekends applying just a primer and two thick coats of paint. I’m very pleased with the results as it makes the garage much brighter and cleaner.
